PPJ - Dane County Committee Meeting - September 8th

Urban Triage, Inc. co-hosted a FB event with Freedom Inc., Allies for Black Lives - Madison, Groundwork, and Re-elect Heidi Wegleitner for Dane County Supervisor D2 to gather people to attend the September 8th Public Protection and Judiciary (PPJ) committee to discuss the 2020 Resolution 145 (Doyle Resolution). We want to "Build the People, Not the Jail!"A number of people registered to speak in support of Item C-3, Resolution 145, the Doyle Resolution. We need human investment, not more cages. The pandemic has clearly shown us that reducing the population size in no way affects our community negatively. This means, in no way, do we need to build a bigger jail. Imagine what our communities could do with the $150 million that a jail will cost!

We want to start building momentum over the next few months to pass this Doyle Resolution and save the county $150 million that can be invested in community. We have already experienced a small win. In response to the overwhelming current momentum to divest from incarceration, the county has decided to take up to an extra five months to vote. We want to use this time to Build the People, Not the Jail, and we started that by gathering people this day to register in support of the Doyle resolution on this day.
