Kids March - September 30th

There is a rich history of children playing important roles in racial justice activism. On Sunday, September 30th, kids and their families gathered to uplift that history as well as the demands of the Movement for Black Lives to defund police and invest in Black people. Hundreds joined at Mc Pike Park looking for a way for their families to leave the ranks of the neutral and joined the urgency of this historic moment.
Allies for Black Lives - Madison, Urban Triage, several of Madison's child-centered organizations, and numerous organizations and businesses collaborated to host this event and to show a unified front of support for movement demands. There were several fun stations where kids could do chalking, decorate banners, make signs and noisemakers, and record videos. Books were disbursed that were purchased for the Little Free Libraries as part of the "Little Free Library Racial Justice Takeover."
Kids and their families marched to Orton Park where Ali Muldrow spoke about the importance of educating our children about race. There was also a short teach-in about movement demands and discussion about the need for our community to move with expediency to defund the Madison Police Department and invest in Black communities.
