Call in to Dane Co. PP&J meeting
Urban Triage

Build the People, Not the Jail! We are still here, and can still change the course of history here in Dane County. Resolution 303 is back on the Public Protection and Judiciary Committee's agenda on Tuesday 1/12/2021. This Resolution is a fluffy attempt to urge the Sheriff to close one pod of 50 beds if possible once the Jail is built. It is a a weak non-binding request that does nothing to #BuildThePeopleNotTheJail.

Dane County Board Meeting Call In
Urban Triage

Build the People, Not the Jail! Let's remind our Dane County Supervisors, as well as the Sheriff's department, that we are still paying attention. As we all have seen, the Jail project has not changed much. We are still set to spend $148 million dollars (plus interest) to incarcerate 922 human beings... Despite the calls from the board for a smaller and "safer" jail, the community calling to #BuildThePeopleNotTheJail, or the overwhelming evidence of our ability to reduce the jail population through other means and community programs.

Remember, Remember, the 4th of November
Urban Triage

We know that no matter the outcome November 3, we’ll have our work cut out for us. While our hopes may be with the lesser of two evils, we know that a corporate-controlled political party can never represent the interests of the people. Join us November 4th at 430 pm, at Apple Hilldale, 702 N. Midvale Blvd. Madison, for a car caravan in solidarity with people who are organizing all over the country. We will let our elected officials know that we will not be fooled. We will stand against facism and racism in all their forms and we will continue to uplift the demands of the Movement for Black Lives, as we have been doing for months, not only to ensure Trump’s departure from the White House but to DEFUND THE POLICE and INVEST IN BLACK PEOPLE.

Police Funding Forum
Urban Triage

Since the death of George Floyd on May 25th, there have been consistent protests around the country in his name to highlight the injustices of police brutality, and the killing of Black men and women by police. For far too long people of color have been subject to a system that deems their lives lesser value to their white counterparts. People are rising up to confront the inequality in our justice system. It is time to hear the voices who are fighting on the front lines. It's time to be there for someone you don't know. To amplify those voices, join us on August 15th at 7pm for an important discussion with activist on what they would like to see changed as a result of the ongoing protest.

In Your Corner - Starting and Running Your Hustle
Urban Triage

Gaining access to legal services in the United States is a real problem, and growing income inequality and systemic racism have only served to exacerbated the justice gap. A recent study shows that approximately forty-to-sixty percent of the middle classes’s legal needs go unmet and that eighty percent of low-income individuals can not afford legal assistance. Though the UW Law & Entrepreneurship Clinic’s legal services are free, we know that we can and should do more to address the justice gap in our community. UW Law & Entrepreneurship Program has partnered with Urban Triage, Freedom Inc, and Economic Empowerment Wisconsin to host this event, as well as free office hours for black entrepreneurs and black business owners. After the event we will send out a new registration form where you can reserve a time to speak privately about your legal issues with one of our attorneys.
